2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI
3VWML7AJXDM693068
Purchased from Capitol Volkswagen in San Jose, CA in July 2018. Was purchased as a Certified Pre-owned (CPO) vehicle and came with CPO warranty that expired at 50k miles. This vehicle was recalled and modified by Volkswagen of America as part of the TDI Emissions fix and was resold as a CPO vehicle. There is an Extended Emissions Warranty that runs for 10 years and 6 months or 126,000 miles from the modification/fix date of 05/22/2018 and 32,186 miles. More info can be found here: https://www.vwdieselinfo.com/ by entering the VIN.
I used this car for my 90 mile commute, 5 days a week, and it’s been nearly flawless. I would routinely get an average of 32 to 35 mpg at 70-75 mph freeway speeds. If cruising at 60-65 you can easily see nearly 40 mpg.
The six speed manual transmission shifts well and has no issues. Also includes a weighted shift knob for better shift feel. Clutch feels good and grabs well. No slipping or chattering.
The interior is in nearly perfect condition. There are no rips or tears in any of the leather seats, carpets, headliner or door panels. Some minor stains on light colored headliner, but nothing a steam cleaning couldn’t fix. An aftermarket wireless charger was also installed in the center console and a VW cargo mat in the trunk.
The only major issue on the interior is a common problem with the panoramic roof shade. It has come unglued from the track that it moves on and sags down if opened. I was able to open the shade completely and have left it as is. I purchased a HeatShield brand reflector shade for the roof and windshield to help keep the heat down without the original sunshade working.
The exterior is in good condition, but the paint is not perfect, however, so I will list any major issues (please see photos as well). As the mileage is mostly freeway driving, the front end has the typical rock chips and damage from debris. The front bumper is the worst and paint has flaked off in a few places. Being street parked frequently caused a few scratches as well. The rear bumper was hit at some point when I was parked and it left some scratches. There are no major dents or body damage, but every panel has at least some kind of small scratches or scuff marks from normal everyday use. I love this car but the paint was not taken care of; I just didn’t have the time.

Here is some info on maintenance and repairs done during my ownership:
- Oil changes have been done every 10k miles and diesel fuel filters replaced every other oil change (20k miles) as per VW’s maintenance schedule. https://pics.tdiclub.com/data/516/2013_Jetta_TDI.pdf
- The OEM Continental tires were replaced in 2019 with Goodyear Eagle Sport tires at America’s Tire in Napa, CA.
- Brake pads and rotors were replaced by me in summer of 2019
- Brake fluid flushed with new DOT 4 fluid when replacing brake components
- Sunroof drains were clogged shortly after buying the car and it did leak into the vehicle during heavy rain, but luckily only once. The spare tire well was collecting water and the front carpets were wet. I had this cleaned and fixed properly by removing the entire carpets from the vehicle, drying over the course of a week in the dry california heat and with large space heaters. All wet fabrics were treated with anti-odor and anti-mold sprays and reinstalled. I haven’t noticed any other leaks since having the drains cleared and re installed correctly, but it is probably time to have the drains cleaned again and the sunroof rails lubricated.
- Liftgate gas struts were replaced with ECS Tuning "Hatch Pop Kit" which includes strong gas struts with a spring to open liftgate handsfree. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-parts/ecs-hatch-pop-kit/015568ecs01~a/
- Included with the vehicle is an oil change kit (Synthetic oil, oil filter, drain plug and washer), fuel filter, and accessory belt ready to use as well.
- Also includes a Thule roof rack and bicycle carrier with the Sportwagen, I can install them if wanted.
